Joyy has been dancing for over 19 years and has spread her love and knowledge of the art at over a dozen centers in Michigan, Maryland, Washington D.C. and Virginia. She is a member of the highly respected PDTA (Professional Dance Teachers Association) and holds for her profession and those within it, the highest respect.
Joyy has been awarded scholarships to Broadway Dance Center (NY) and Steps on Broadway (NY), as well as a prestigious scholarship to Interlochen Center for the Arts boarding high school. At ICA she majored in Modern dance with a minor in piano & music. At 15 she became a member of the foreign exchange dance company Dance International USA and toured throughout Australia. During that tour she attended The Australian International Performing Arts High School and experienced classes at The University of New South Whales. She has had the honor of being further trained by several reknowned professional
choreographers: Gregg Russell, director of Tap Sounds Underground; Glen Packard; Brian Thomas; Terry
Beeman; Keith Clifton; Leslie Scott; Sal Vassallo....and many more!
Joyy's energetic teaching methods and creative choreography have made her a sought after instructor for several dance workshops. Her choreography and style is used by high school pom/dance squads, as well as The College of William and Mary Dance Team. She has recieved recognition from New York City Dance Alliance, LA Danceforce and Urban Jamm for Outstanding Hip Hop Choreography, Outstanding Jazz Choreography, Creativity and Musicality. Her teams have also been acknowledged for Outstanding Performance, Special Judges Awards, High Point Awards and Highest Overall Score. Several of her dancers have also recieved convention scholarships.
Joyy's other accomplishments include professional dance team experience with the NFL's Washington Redskins
Cheerleaders and the NBA's Washington Wizards Dancers. She has performed in 2 national commercials for ESPN and made an additional appearance on Cold Pizza on ESPN2. Joyy has had the honor to work and travel with the USO Tour and Armed Forces Entertainmet (AFE). As a dancer in their variety shows, she has supported our troops overseas in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Honduras, Africa and the Dominican Republic. She has been a dancer in promotional commercial/infomercial for Jammnation and Lansing Community College in Michigan. Joyy has also had the oppurtunity to work with several beneficial organizations including Toys 4 Tots, Read to Achieve, Childrens Leukemia
Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Cumberland Hospital for Children & Adolescents.
Although she has performed all over the
world, Joyys passions are learning and teaching. She believes a successful teacher is bound by necessity of constant study, knowing that dance is a living art, and trains as vigorously as she instructs. She now furthers her personal study whenever possible at Broadway Dance Center (NY), Steps on Broadway (NY) and Edge Performing Arts Center in Hollywood, California.
